Users Guide

Faculty and Staff

  • Full-time teachers
  • Other faculty(Part-time teachers, Research assistants of the university, Guest lecturers, Guest researchers, Postdoctoral Researcher, Ph.D. Candidate Researcher, Professors Emeritus, etc.)
  • Regular staff, Part-time contract workers, Tokyo Metropolitan Government dispatched staff, etc.
  • Temporary staff of the university, Temporary, etc.

Library Admission

A staff ID card is required to enter the library. Present your staff ID at the service desk during your first visit and complete the necessary procedures. For those who have not been issued a staff ID card, a library card will be issued.

Procedures for issuing a library card

For those who have not been issued a staff ID card, a library card will be issued. Please fill out "Library Card Registration Application" and submit it to the service desk. At that time, please present a document that proves that you are a member of the university's faculty or staff (staff ID, letter of appointment, etc.). If there are any changes to your application after issuance, or if you have lost or damaged your library card, please report to the service desk.

Attention to Library Users

  • Please be quiet inside the library.
  • Use library materials, equipment and facilities with care.
  • Do not eat or drink inside the library. (Excluding hydration.)
  • Do not distribute printed materials or engage in solicitation inside the library without permission.
  • Keep articles of value with you at all times.
  • Smoking is prohibited inside the library.
  • Do not talk on your phone or smart phone inside the library.
  • Please refrain from entering the library if you are not in good physical condition.
  • Please wash your hands and disinfect your fingers frequently.
  • Refrain from behavior that may cause a nuisance to others.

Borrowing of Materials

Use the lending machine. Staff ID card or library card is required.
Materials that cannot be processed by the lending machine (such as audio-visual materials) can be borrowed at the service desk.

Faculty
  • Number of books: 15
  • Period: 4 weeks
Staff
  • Number of books: 10
  • Period: 2 weeks
Notes:
  • Journals (excluding bound Japanese journals at the Central Library) and reference only materials cannot be borrowed.
  • Audio-visual materials at the Systems Design Library can only be borrowed for a period of one week.
  • At the Health Sciences Library, full-time teachers may borrow audio-visual materials for one week and part-time teachers for one day.

Return

Library-borrowed materials may be returned at any campus libraries.

How to Return Books
  • Return to the service desk or the book post installed outside the library.
  • By Mail/Courier (Cost to be borne by the senders)
    • In order to avoid water leakage/ contamination and damage, pack the books in a plastic bag, cushioning material and etc., and clearly write "book to return" on the surface of the package.

Late Penalty

New materials cannot be borrowed if other materials are not returned by the deadline. 

Loss/Damage of Materials

If you lose or damage materials, you will be required, in principle, to replace them. Notify the library immediately.

Use of Libraries of Affiliated Universities

Full-time teachers may use the libraries of Chuo University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences through user agreements. A staff ID card is required for use.

Referral Letters

A referral letter is sometimes required when visiting the libraries of other universities and institutions. The library will inquire in advance and issue a referral letter if required. Apply using the online service (Issue a letter of introduction).

Note:
  • It will take approximately one week to issue the letter. Be sure to submit your application well in advance.

Reference

The librarian will answer questions regarding research. Inquire at the service desk.
You can also use the online service (Online Reference).

Mailing Services

We provide library services(book lending and copying) by mail delivery only when the student or faculty of this university have difficulties in coming to campus. The library offers consultations on an individual basis, so contact each library by email, writing your circumstances and the services to request specifically.
