What is Tokyo Metropolitan University Institutional Repository “Miyakodori”?

Tokyo Metropolitan University Institutional Repository “Miyakodori” is an information platform designed to electronically collect, accumulate, preserve, and disseminate research results created at the Tokyo Metropolitan University(TMU). It is publicly available for free on the Internet.
Miyakodori” is operated by the Library and Academic Information Center in accordance with the Tokyo Metropolitan University Institutional Repository Operational Guidelines.

How to register your research results in the Miyakodori

By registering your academic research outcomes with the Miyakodori, you can make your research results available to the whole world through the Internet.

Eligible Registrants

The following individuals and organizations are eligible to register their academic research results in the Miyakodori.

Individuals All individuals who are currently affiliated with, or were formerly affiliated with the Tokyo Metropolitan University, as well as those who conduct research activities using titles that include the name of the TMU. 
(This includes all status such as full-time, part-time, student or titles such as visiting professors.)
Organizations Organizations based on the Tokyo Metropolitan University, such as faculties, departments, courses, graduate schools, programs, academic divisions, research laboratories, etc.
Eligible Contents

In order to register the Miyakodori, academic research outcomes are required to meet all of the following conditions:

  • They are outcomes of scholarly research.
  • They were created by, or created with the involvement of, the registrant.
  • The main part of the content was created at the Tokyo Metropolitan University.
  • Items that upon dissemination, do not pose any legal, social norms, or security issues.
  • They can be distributed via a network.

Provided the above conditions are met, eligible research outcomes are the following:

Theses and dissertations Doctoral dissertations, master’s theses, and others.
Academic journal articles Academic journal papers and post prints
Preprints Research papers prior to publication in academic journals
Bulletin papers Papers published in bulletins
Conference presentation papers Papers published in conference minutes or proceedings
Articles in general magazines Materials that have been made public in general form, such as being published in general commercial magazines
Books Entire books, papers published in the book, or part of the book
Research reports Reports of research outcomes, including technical reports, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) reports, and research activity reports
Educational materials Teaching materials and lecture materials prepared for educational purposes such as research guidance and lectures
Presentation materials for lectures and conference presentations Presentation materials and meeting documents that have been used in lectures, conferences, etc.
Research data Data obtained through research activities, including source data for publications, survey data, experimental data, analytical data, processed data, design data, sample data, and program data

However, for the academic work created in undergraduate programs or master’s programs, permission from the academic supervisor is required prior to registration. 

Notes for publication

When you register academic research results with the Miyakotori, the copyright will not be transferred to the TMU library.
The TMU library registers and makes public only those for which the author's permission has been obtained.

Obtain co-author’s consent

To prevent the occurrence of troubles, be sure to obtain the consent of your co-authors.

Checking Copyright and Related Rights

When publishing in academic journals, it is usually the case that the contract involves transferring the copyright of the paper to the publisher or academic society.
Please check and be aware of the conditions for repository publication in the copyright policy of the academic journal in which your paper is published.

You can refer to the policy databases below for the copyright policies of each publisher and academic society:

・Japanese academic societies:SCPJ (Scholarly Copyright Policy Database for Japan)
However, please use the policy database only as a reference, and as general rule, check directly with copyright transfer documents or the publisher's website, and contact the publisher if anything is unclear.

If there are cited illustrations or photographs in the research results, it may be necessary to obtain the copyright holder's permission for publication.
In that case, please obtain permission for the public transmission right. 

① Registration Request Application in the Institutional Repository Registration Support System

Individuals affiliated with the TMU can submit a registration request to the Miyakodori through the Registration Support System.

Eligible applicants

TMU ID holders who are registered users of researchmap
※Whatever status (student, researcher, faculty, etc.) you have, it is fine. 

Eligible materials

Academic journal papers, conference presentation materials, and other research results
※As for research data registration, please contact Central Library directly.

②Registration via Submission Form

For those who cannot use the registration support system, or for requests to register bulletins, etc., from on-campus organizations, requests will be accepted via an application form. 

There are two types of registration methods: individual registration and organizational registration.
Individual registrants should submit the Submission Form for Individual. Organization registrants should submit the Submission Form for Group.
When systematically registering journals such as bulletins, registration should be done using  the Submission Form for Group. At the time of initial registration, if you write 'I wish to continue registering' in the remark column, you will not need to submit submission forms thereafter.
