Users Guide

Graduates, Former teachers and Open University (OU)

  • Graduates of the university and its previous incarnations (Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology, Tokyo Metropolitan University of Health Sciences, etc.), those who have completed graduate school programs, those who have completed premium college program.
  • Those who completed credits but left before graduation (Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology, Tokyo Metropolitan University of Health Sciences, etc.)
  • Those who have worked as a teacher at the university or one of its previous incarnations (Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology, Tokyo Metropolitan University of Health Sciences, etc.)
  • Lecturers and members of Open University (OU)

Library Admission

A library card is required for admission. If you do not have a card, we will issue you a library card. *At the Health Sciences Library, library cards are only issued to graduates and former teachers.

Procedures for Library Card Issuance

Please fill out "Library Card Registration Application" and submit it to the service desk.

If there are any changes to your application after issuance, or if you have lost or damaged your user's card, please report to the service desk.

Notes
  • If you are a graduate, let us know the year you graduated and the school to which you belonged.
  • If you completed credits but left before graduation, fill out "Library Card Registration Application" and the library use request form. Submit them at the service desk.
  • If you are an OU member, present your membership card.

Attention to Library Users

  • Please be quiet inside the library.
  • Use library materials, equipment and facilities with care.
  • Do not eat or drink inside the library. (Except where food and drink are permitted.)
  • Do not distribute printed materials or engage in solicitation inside the library without permission.
  • Smoking is prohibited inside the library.
  • Keep articles of value with you at all times.
  • Do not talk on or charge your mobile phone inside the library.
  • Please refrain from entering the library if you are not in good physical condition.
  • Please wash your hands and disinfect your fingers frequently.
  • Refrain from behavior that may cause a nuisance to others.

Borrowing of Materials

Use the lending machine. Your library card is required.Materials that cannot be processed by the lending machine (such as audio-visual materials) can be borrowed at the service desk. We do not extend loan periods, make reservations, or order items.

  • Number of books: 5
  • Period: 2 weeks
Notes
  • Borrowing periods cannot be extended or reserved. You cannot make reservation of materials. Materials at the libraries of other campuses cannot be shipped to the library.
  • Journals (excluding bound Japanese Journals at the Central Library) and reference only materials cannot be borrowed.
  • Audio-visual materials at the Systems Design Library and the Health Sciences Library cannot be borrowed.
  • Materials in the "National Examination Question Book" located in the Arakawa-kan cannot be checked out.

Return

Library-borrowed materials may be returned at any campus library.

How to Return Books
  • Return to the service desk or the book post installed outside the library.
  • By Mail/Courier (Cost to be borne by the senders)
    • In order to avoid water leakage/ contamination and damage, pack the books in a plastic bag, cushioning material and etc., and clearly write "book to return" on the surface of the package.

Late Penalty

New materials cannot be borrowed if other materials are not returned by the deadline.

Loss/Damage of Materials

If you lose or damage materials, you will be required, in principle, to replace them. Notify the library immediately.

Reference

The librarian will answer questions regarding research. Inquire at the service desk. You can also use the online service (Online Reference).

The Use of My Library

Those who have library cards can use My Library.

User ID
  • Numbers written below the barcode on the library card(If alphabetic characters are written before and after it, use an eight-digit number without alphabets).
What you can do in My Library
  • Checking notices from the library
  • Making sure of checked-out materials
  • Changing your email address and password
