Q. What are electronic resources?

  • Electronic resources refer collectively to materials and tools available on the Internet, such as electronic journals, electronic books, and databases. The electronic resources subscribed by the library can be viewed on the electronic resources page

Q. Tell me how to search for electronic resources.

  • You can get to know how to search electronic resources, besides that, e-books can be searched and accessed from the OPAC, and e-journals can be searched and accessed from the "Electronic Journal Search" tab in the OPAC or from the Publication Finder.

Q. Is it possible to use electronic resources from off-campus?

  • Electronic resources with environment icons of access marked as  OPEN  or compatible with academic authentication can be used from off-campus. 
  • OPEN means it is open to public.

Q. Please tell me how to search for academic articles.

  • When you want to search for academic articles using related keywords, you can use a research article database. 
  • When you are looking for a specific article, you first need to identify the journal it was published in. For Japanese articles, you can check CiNii Research, etc., to find the journal. Once you have identified the journal, check in the OPAC whether this journal is available at our university.   
  • For databases subscribed to by our university, please check Electronic Resources > Search for Papers/Articles.

Q. What is the DOI written in articles? Also, can I read the full text of the articles from this DOI?

  • DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a type of identifier used on the internet. By assigning this DOI to a article, it prevents links from being broken and allows for a permanent link. Whether you can read the full text of the article depends on the subscription with the electronic journal. You need to make sure respectively.

Q. Please tell me how to search for newspaper articles.

  • You can search for newspaper articles in a newspaper database. Please check Electronic Resources > Searching for Newspaper Articles for the newspaper databases subscribed by our university.   
  • If there is a physical copy (paper newspaper) available, you can also examine and research it by viewing the paper version of newspaper.

Q. Are there databases or electronic journals for searching domestic engineering literature?

Among the electronic resources, the following cover all fields including Japanese engineering literature:  

  1. CiNii Research 
    This is Japan's largest academic information search service that allows cross-searching of information such as articles, books, journals, research data, and researchers. 
  2. National Diet Library Online 
    You can search the materials held by the National Diet Library and digital content. 
  3. J-STAGE 
    This is a system that publishes electronic journals issued by domestic academic societies, where you can select "Engineering" from "Field" on the advanced search screen to search. 
Furthermore, there are electronic journals subscribed limitedly to the Hino Campus. Please check the list of electronic journals 【Hino Library】 (limited to Hino Campus) on the Hino Library website.
