How to Access from Off-campus

Using GakuNin

The electronic journals, books, and databases listed in the “Available Services” are available from off-campus as if connected to the internal campus network.

How to Use

On the login screen for each service, log in with your ID of TMU Information Network for Education and Research (TMU ID).

If you do not have TMU ID, application for the user ID will be required.

Login Method

The details vary from service to service, but generally the procedure is as follows:

  1. Access the service you wish to use.
  2. Click on “Institutional Sign In” or “via Shibboleth.” Some services are labeled as “GakuNin,” such as “Click here if you have a GakuNin account” or “Click here if you use GakuNin (Shibboleth).”
  3. Choose “Tokyo Metropolitan University” or “東京都立大学” in the institutions list. If it prompts you to choose federation before that, choose one to include “Japan” or “GakuNin” as “Japanese Research and Education (GakuNin).”
  4. The TMU authentication screen (Microsoft screen) will be displayed; you may log in with the above ID and password.
  5. Please authenticate when the need for SMS or phone authentication arises (e.g., when you use the service for the first time, when you have not used the service for more than 90 days, when you change devices, when you change browsers, etc.).

    *Shibboleth: A secure single sign-on (SSO) mechanism used for GakuNin that allows users to log in to multiple services in a common and smooth manner.

Use by Remote Access ID

By creating a remote access ID issued by publishers or vendors, you can use the same services even when logging from outside the campus.

How to Obtain an ID

Please send an email to the following address with your “Name,” “Student/Faculty ID number,” and “Email address.” *Replace”★” to “@” in the email address.

Expiration Date

End of the academic year. *Application is required for each academic year.

Registering personal accounts with individual publishers

By creating a personal account for an individual publisher via a campus network, you can use some of the same services even when logging from outside the campus. Personal accounts are required for each individual publisher or vendor. Some features such as alert notifications and search history storage are available. Please contact each individual publisher or vendor for its availability.
