Large Volume Downloading and Access using Pre-read Browser Function

If your web browsers ❝pre-read❞ function is turned on, the browser repeatedly accesses links within the web page in the background while viewing the web page. This results in large volume data downloads or access, even though the user intends to use the service properly. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you turn off your browsers ❝pre-read❞ function.

【How to Change Settings】
  • Microsoft Edge
Click ❝Settings,❞ choose ❝Cookies and site permissions❞ and select ❝Manage and delete cookies and site data.❞ Set ❝Preload pages for faster browsing and searching❞ to off.
  • Google Chrome
Click ❝Settings,❞ choose ❝Performance.❞ Set ❝Preload pages for faster browsing and searching❞ to off.
  • FireFox
Type ❝about:config❞ in the URL bar and press Enter key. If the ❝Proceed with Caution❞ warning is displayed, click ❝Accept the Risk and Continue.❞ Type ❝network.prefetch-next❞ in the search bar. On the configuration screen, double-click ❝network.prefetch-next❞ and set to ❝false.❞
  • Safari (Mac)
Open ❝Settings❞ from the Safari menu bar. On the ❝Search❞ tab, uncheck ❝Preload Top Hit in the Background.❞

Large Volume Downloading using Automatic Download Function for Reference Management Tools

Some reference management tools have a function to automatically search and download full-text PDFs from imported article information, such as ❝Find Full Text❞ in the case of EndNote, and using this function may result in unintended large volume downloads of electronic journals. Please turn off the automatic download function.

【How to Turn off the Function】
  • In the case of EndNote *EndNote online(basic) does not have this function.
Open ❝Edit❞ > ❝References❞ from the EndNote menu bar.Click ❝Find Full Text❞ on the left side menu, and uncheck ❝Automatically invoke Find Full Text on newly-imported references❞ at the bottom of the list.
